12 Personal Commitments to Create a Happier You!

12 personal commitmentsDo you really know who you are and what you stand for, or is your life defined by what job you have and what things you own?

A few years ago I was asked  who I was and I started to respond with details of my current job and what position I held.

I was interrupted quite quickly and asked again “no I want to know who Claire Massingham is, not what she does!”

I was stumped, I didn’t know how to answer that question. I really hadn’t given it that much thought.

This then lead me on a journey of self discovery.

I started to explore my strengths, my thinking preferences and what my true values were.

More recently, inspired by Gretchen Rubin from the Happiness Project, I started to reflect on whether I was living my life in accordance with the person who I wanted to be and wanted to be remembered for.

I decided that there was always room for improvement, so I followed Gretchen’s advice and wrote down 12 Personal Commitments that I knew if I followed I would always be able to experience true happiness.

This week I share them with you in my video, in the hope that you will be inspired to do the same.

The world needs happier people like you and I.

Be happy, colour the world.

I was thinking the other day about how I live my life and if I live it every day in accordance with who I really want to be.

In the most part I was pretty happy but I know there is always room for improvement, so I decided to write down the things that I would be doing every day if I was that person.

Out of that list I came up with what my 12 Personal Commitments.

These are commitments that I make to myself everyday to ensure that I am always striving to live my life in accordance with who I truly want to be.

So I thought I would share them with you because I know when you make yourself accountable to people you are more likely to do what you say you are going to do.

Here are my 12 Personal Commitments.

  1. Be kind and not right
  2. No whinging
  3. Love don’t judge
  4. Help others
  5. Be grateful
  6. Be kind to myself
  7. Accept and then let go
  8. If it is not helpful don’t focus on it
  9. Exercise everyday
  10. Live life on purpose
  11. Shine brightly
  12. Be Claire

I believe happiness comes from within you and when you are living your life in accordance with who you really are, that is your true essence without your ego getting in the way, then you will be happy.

Have a go and writing down your 12 Personal Commitments and see what you come up with. When you have done this read them out loud to see if they resonate deeply with who you want to be.

Display them somewhere where you can see them everyday or keep them by your bedside table and read them every morning so you can start your day off in the right frame of mind.

Even go as far as sharing them with your friends so that they can keep you accountable. If you want true happiness this is a great place to start.
