There is no quick fix or magic pill that is going to make you fit and healthy!

If you ever hear any of these catch phrases;

  • Fat that will just melt away
  • Lose 5kg in one week
  • Lose weight while you sleep
  • Lose weight without exercising
  • Washboard abs in 7 days
  • Cellulite that disappears

Then run a mile!

Being fit and healthy is a lifestyle choice and one that will require commitment, dedication and consistency.

Hi it’s Claire from the happiness bank and it is that time again.  Sit back and relax and let me share with you five things that fit and healthy people DON’T do.

1. They don’t wine and moan about having to exercise. They just get up and do it because they know they will feel absolutely fabulous once they have done it and they also know how vital it is to keep their body strong and healthy.

2. They don’t say the word but, it isn’t a part of their vocabulary.  Every time you say BUT you have just negated anything that you have said before that word. Here’s an example, I really do value my health BUT I just don’t have the time or energy to exercise. All I heard then was I don’t have the time or energy to exercise. Healthy happy people say I really value my health and even though sometimes I don’t feel like exercising, I always honour my commitment to make it a part of my daily routine.

3.  They don’t use tiredness as an excuse. You will rarely hear them saying I am too tired to cook, I am too tired to exercise, I am too tired to think, I am too tired to be motivated, I am too tired to eat healthy. Everyone is tired, that is the nature of the Western world. Unless you have a good excuse for being tired such as an illness, put your big persons panties on and suck it up. Plan ahead for the times that you know you will be tired, have healthy food in your freezer that you can just put in the microwave, have healthy snacks in the fridge, make Friday night’s meal a simple one, put your exercise gear out by the side of your bed to make it easy to put on.  Healthy happy people don’t do tiredness, they do commitment.

4. They don’t wait until they are motivated to exercise, they just do it knowing that the motivation will kick in as the adrenaline starts to fire up and the happy endorphins are released. If you are waiting for motivation to get you started on your health and fitness journey, you may never get started. Instead pick a time and date and just get out there and do it.

5. They don’t eat food out of packet and they don’t order their food through a speaker and have it delivered to them through a window. Instead they eat food that has had minimal human interference to it, that is natural and full of flavor, that brightens up their plate with colour, that fuels their body with premium nutrients and they stop eating well before they have to undo their top button.

So how did you fare? Are you fit and healthy? Do you value your health and fitness and can you honestly say that you do a pretty dam good job of not doing those five things. We are all human and I know that. I give myself some leeway sometimes and that is ok. To really honour you health and fitness though you need to make sure that in the most part you don’t wine and moan about exercise, that you remove BUT from your vocabulary, that you put on your big person’s panties and forget about tiredness, that you don’t wait to feel motivated to exercise and that you don’t eat food out of a packet.

Replace these five unhelpful things with more helpful actions and watch your happiness account flourish.
