A painful reminder on gratitude

Sometimes it takes a painful reminder to stop you in your tracks. To make you realise how lucky you are and how grateful you need to be for the simple things in life we often take for granted.

I had one of those reminders last week!

Transcript – A painful reminder on gratitude

Hi everyone, Claire here from the Happy Art with a 90 second pause and ponder video.

So over the past five days I have been in agony with an abscess on a tooth that eventually had to be pulled out. The pain was so bad I just bunkered down on the lounge sleeping the days away drugged up to the eye balls on pain killers.

In the midst of all my pain I couldn’t help but ponder.

What do people in third world countries do when they get a tooth ache or what do people do in my country who can’t afford to go to the dentist or get the pain killers they need. Do they just endure the pain, do they just suck it up or does someone come and pull their tooth out without any anesthetic. AND if I am in so much pain because of one tiny tooth what about those men, women and children who are in the middle of war torn countries who have limbs blown off and are miles away from any medical help.

Some real sobering questions that stopped me in my tracks.

These questions made me realise how grateful I am for having access to dental care, for having a lounge to curl up and cry on and for having family to care for me. It also made me grateful for all the other teeth I have in my mouth that are not infected. All too often we take our health and our bodies for granted but now that I am in my 50’s I am reminded more and more everyday what a miracle it is to have a healthy fully functioning body.

Thanks for pondering with me, hopefully this will help you to be more grateful and to focus on the great things you have in your life without taking them for granted.

By the way don’t forget that I now have my new book here and ready to send to you. If you want a happiness plan at your finder tips visit the shop at happyart.com.au and get your copy today.

  1. As you so often have the knack of doing, you made me top in my tracks myself today and breathe and get some clarity. I was in a down mood. So many things happening, feeling overwhelmed, feeling not good enough and feeling sorry for myself. You blog helped me put things into perspective, as it so often does. I witnessed first hand the agony you were in and how you managed to pull yourself together and carry on. Thank you for making me stop and take a moment to get some clarity. Hope you’re feeling better!! XX And as for your book, what a beautiful piece of work. Absolutely loved it and can’t recommend it enough. You should be so proud of yourself. What a beautiful gift to share with those you love.

    1. Thanks so much Nik for always having something insightful and positive to say. I love how you always deposit into my happiness account and I am so glad I can deposit into yours as well.
