Positive feelings – the language of your soul

Positive feelings

It was my usual Saturday morning walk, meandering by the Brisbane river, winding my way through the New Farm markets and delighting in the happy hum of people enjoying being out doors. Positive feelings were flowing through my body but I was really aware of them, I was too busy planning for the day ahead.

Lost in my own thoughts I suddenly heard a voice say “can you help me please”. I looked up into the eyes of an elderly gentleman wanting to cross the road. He had a calico shopping bag under his arm and I assumed he wanted directions to the markets. I stopped and smiled and said of course I can help you.”

He asked me if I could help him cross the road as his eye sight was bad and he was scared of walking in front of a cyclist.

I took hold of his arm and we crossed the road together. He then turned to me with a huge smile and said “Thank you so much, I’ve got it from here. Please enjoy the rest of your day.”

I continued on walking with my heart filled with joy, marveling at how a simple task could give me so much joy. I made a conscious decision to savour that moment, to really concentrate on how I was feeling and to see if I could embrace that positive emotion for as long as possible.

Lately I have been trying to do this more; to really concentrate on feeling my feelings. Often I will encounter a positive feeling but because I usually have a million things running around in my head, the feeling ignites my senses for a brief moment and then is distinguished abruptly by overpowering chatter in my head.

Positive feelings are the language of your soul.

It is your higher self, talking to you saying “this is what it’s all about.”

Last Saturday when I felt so good for helping that man, I allowed that feeling to spread through every cell in my body and I hung onto it for as long as I could.

Research has proven that positive feelings are the key to opening you mind. Just as sunlight opens a flower, positive feelings open your mind allowing you to see opportunities and possibilities that you may not have known were there.

The next time you experience a positive feeling, whether its love, engagement, interest, excitement, joy, contentment or peace, pause and give it the credit it deserves. Happiness is made up of positive feelings and these are the true language of the soul.

Be happy, colour the world.

  1. Well CB, your sharing of your positive experience actually filled me with warmth. Actual tangible warmth. I felt myself fill with pride for your act of kindness and then a warmth fuelled by your sharing of this experience. At that moment, I made a conscious decision to try and rid myself of the stress, negativity and worry that had been plaguing my body this morning as I started work, and replace it with positive energy. I love reading your blogs as they usually give me tools I can immediate put into action and then keep in my box for use later as well. Thank you for sharing and also thank you for helping my put my stressful day into perspective!
